PROVO — Land is a precious commodity anywhere, but land around Brigham Young University appears to be golden, with future use most certainly on BYU’s docket.

Last year, Riverside Country Club received a letter notifying the club and its membership that the university would be taking back land now used for a driving range.

The country club and university have had an ongoing use agreement for the land and BYU is exercising its option as owner.

“We don’t want to give up land,” said Carri Jenkins, BYU spokeswoman.

“One day we’ll have a use for it. This is something known to the membership. It won’t come as a surprise.”

Just what that land will be used for remains to be seen. Riverside has 14 more years before it must relinquish the land to BYU.
